Nine Journo Roughed-Up By South African Cricket Team & Accused Of “Aggressive Harassment”

Channel Nine journalist Will Crouch has been manhandled and pushed by members of the South African cricket team has he attempted an interview when the touring team arrived in Adelaide Airport yesterday.

Crouch was attempting to get comment from South African Test captain Faf du Plessis who has been charged with ball tampering and is presently trying to overturn a one-match ban that would rule him out from the Adelaide Test.

Members of the team’s entourage took exception to Crouch’s ‘doorstop’ journalism and quickly became aggressive and thuggish.

However, the South African team – surely familiar with the tactics of journalists at airports – is blaming the entire incident on Crouch.

Last night the team issued a statement accusing Crouch of “aggressively harassing our players with blatant disrespect” and lunging at du Plessis with an “unknown object”. Crouch was clearly holding a microphone and had been pursuing du Plessis for some time.

The man seen pushing and shoving Crouch in the video is reportedly a member of the team’s head of security Zunaid Wadee. It’s reportedly not his first time to have an altercation with a journalist while on the current Australian tour.

The incident follows on from an altercation outside a Sydney courtroom last week where another Nine journalist, Amy Greenback, was set upon by an angry woman leaving Bankstown Local Court. The woman shoved a camera in Greenback’s face, drawing blood from a cut above her eye. The woman was subsequently charged with assaulting the reporter.
