Seven Reveals Programming Schedule For 2017

The Seven Network unveiled its programming plans for the next 18 months last night in Sydney, adding a string of new local and US TV shows, as well as a new digital content division.

The network announced that among the new Aussie dramas next year will be The Paul Hogan Story, as well as mini-series on the lives of Olivia Newton-John and Shane Warne. Richard Roxburgh will also reprise his role as the infamous Roger Rogerson in Blue Murder: Killer Cop.

Also joining Seven’s portfolio will be Million Dollar Cold Case, Yummy Mummies, The Aussie Property Flippers, and Murder Uncovered.

Seven has also secured two new US series, Trial and Error and Training Day.

The network confirmed that My Kitchen Rules, The Secret Daughter, Wanted, 800 Words, House Rules, First Dates and Seven Year Switch will all be returning in 2017. However, Dancing with the Stars has been given the boot due to poor ratings.

As for its sporting schedule, Seven moves into 2017 with a new long-term partnership with the AFL and a portfolio of major sports events over the next two years, including the AFL Grand Final, the Melbourne Cup, the Rugby League World Cup, the Australian Open, the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang and the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Seven has also retained the broadcast rights for the Olympics, which will next feature in Tokyo in 2020.

Seven’s director of network programming, Angus Ross, said the network is “well-placed” over the coming 12 months.

“We have great event and drama franchises and an extraordinary sports portfolio,” he said.

“We look forward to building on our 10 consecutive years of leadership in primetime as we launch 2017 with the Australian Open and Australia’s most successful program, My Kitchen Rules.”

Seven also unveiled its new digital content division – Platform 7 – designed to create bespoke digital content for all social networks and audiences.
