Virtual Reality Firm Start VR Snare Nova’s Angus Stevens As Creative Director

Former Nova Entertainment Digital content and product director, Angus Stevens has been announced as the director of creative services for the Virtual Reality studio Start VR, bolstering the commercial division of the inner Sydney-based company.

Since Start VR’s inception the need from brands and agencies to produce content driven VR experiences has grown exponentially, and the appointment of Stevens signifies the studio’s commitment to build on early success and further expand in this rapidly growing market.

“Start VR specialises in narrative driven virtual reality experiences, and Angus’ knowledge traversing digital and TV platforms with commercially driven content campaigns, perfectly complements our vision as Australia’s first and leading VR studio,” said CEO Kain Tietzel.

Stevens brings an expertise in building digital teams, and collaborating with commercial partners to create innovative campaigns that generate brand engagement and drive revenue.

During his time at Nova Entertainment he built Nova FM into one of the fastest growing digital entertainment properties in Australia; delivering them the number one position in the radio category for the first time in the company’s history. His work with companies including Qantas, Coca Cola Amatil, Sony Music, Carlton Draught, Commonwealth Bank, TAC Victoria, Campari, and Southern Cross Austereo has received both local and international recognition.

Steven said, “2016 is the year of VR and the opportunity to be at the forefront of this extraordinary, immersive new technology and contribute to the ‘writing of the book’ on how VR can resonate with audiences and brands alike, is compelling.

“The momentum, respect and credibility that Start VR has established with clients and agencies in such a short period of time is testament to its founders Kain Tietzel, Nathan Anderson, Martin Taylor and Jaeger Battersby. I’m really excited to be able to play my part in building Start VR into a globally acclaimed VR studio.”

Tietzel added, “We’re seeing a dramatic swing of brands investing in VR content production and the first movers in this space are reaping the benefit of high consumer interest and an insatiable demand for new VR experiences.”
