Google Experimenting With Social Media Posts In Search Results

Google has announced it’s experimenting with a new feature called Google Posts, a feature which allows “prominent figures and organisations” to share images, video and text that appear when Google search users look up the figures name.

This new feature, along with the hiring of 4chan founder Chris Poole, signals a new social media push by the search company.

Google Posts is currently only available to US presidential candidates, it will eventually roll out to ‘prominent figures’. The first candidate to use Google Posts is candidate for the Democratic nomination (‘Feel The Bern’) Bernie Sanders who has posted ‘to Google’ as far back as December:

According to the Google Posts site: “Every day millions of people search on Google, many of whom are looking for information about the upcoming presidential elections. Now there’s a way for users to hear directly from the candidates they’re searching for in real time on Google.

“US presidential candidates can now communicate with text, images and videos directly on Google. Creating content is fast and simple, and once published, posts will appear instantly in search results related to the candidate. Each post can also be shared on popular social networks, amplifying the message even further.”

There is a waitlist for interested people to join Google Posts.
