SBS Managing Director Denies Future Zaky Mallah Appearance

SBS managing director Michael Ebeid has assured Abbott Government cabinet ministers that Zaky Mallah will not be making an appearance on an upcoming segment about Islam.

The Australian has reported that Zaky Mallah, the guy behind all the hoopla around Q&A, is expected to begin filming a segment about Islam for The Feed, SBS’s youth program. Its associate editor John Lyons said he’d interviewed Mallah’s co-star in the segment, Kim Vuga, who confirmed that she was due to film alongside Mallah this week.

The Australian is reporting that Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Finance Minister Matthias Cormann phoned Ebeid on Saturday morning to seek an explanation.

SBS managing director has refuted any reports that Mallah will appear on the public broadcaster. He tweeted:

Ebeid also released a statement discrediting The Australian‘s report:

“The idea that Zaky Mallah is being given his own show is completely incorrect. SBS had confirmed to the journalist that this was not true, yet he decided to run with an incorrect headline.

“A freelance journalist had pitched a potential story idea to The Feed, SBS’s youth news and current affairs program, that could have involved Zaky Mallah in a story segment.

“The idea was pitched to SBS but no filming had been booked and it had not even progressed past an idea.”

Zaky Mallah is revelling in the publicity, tweeting:
