Tumblr’s new advertising program across its site which will see it implementing ads across users’ blogs. The company did not provide specific details on how the program will operate.  It appears to be an expansion of its Creatrs program which connects brands with Tumblr users directly. The ads will start appearing across its network of blogs by the end of this week.

The advertising program will be set as default, but user’s are able to opt-out if they choose.

”We continue to deliver ad solutions to grow Tumblr’s business and maximize value for our advertisers and community,” the company said in a statement. “Featuring Yahoo display and Gemini native ads across the Tumblr blog network is another example of these ongoing efforts.”

The announcement has occurred in the same week after Tumblr’s parent company Yahoo was acquired by Verizon in a $4.8 billion deal. In the deal, Verizon gains the Tumblr social network as a part of the larger group of content sites including Flickr, Yahoo News and Yahoo Sports.

PRESS RELEASE:

Coming soon: Money from your Tumblr

On Thursday, we’re going to introduce ads on Tumblrs, so that later this year people can start making money from their blogs.

Tumblr is a place where brilliant, creative, funny, impossible people shape culture. Some of you have even turned your passions into jobs: book deals, music careers, paid gigs with the Creatrs program. Now, (soon!) that opportunity will be available to any eligible Tumblr—poet, musician, fan artist, and misfit weirdo memelord alike.

Some things you’re probably wondering:

Do you have to? Good question. No, you can turn off on-blog advertising in settings if you’re not comfortable with it.

When? Who? How? How much? Also good questions! We’re still working out the details of the partner program but as soon as we have details to share, we’ll make announcements right here on trusty Staff. Just so you know: You won’t be able to make money until you register for the program—which is coming soon.

Okay, cool. Ta ta for now!
