Twitter launches Instagram challenging Vine

Twitter has launched its answer to Instagram with its new app Vine, allowing people to post six-second looping videos on the social media network.

According to Twitter the service has been deliberately limited to six seconds to “inspire creativity” as the limited 140 character length of tweets does.

Instagram was the social media phenomenon of last year, with millions signing up to the platform,, bought by Facebook for $1bn.

The new Vine app also offers a new platform for brands to hawk their wares on the site, although it is currently limited to iPhone and iPod Touch devices for uploads.
