Is Lisa Wilkinson Set To Be Ten’s Incarnation Of Oprah?

Network Ten may have suffered the year from hell, however, things are looking brighter with a new owner in CBS and the media coup of the year – snaring Lisa Wilkinson away from arch-rival Nine.

When Wilkinson signed her $2 million a year deal last month it was touted that she’d take a hosting role on the network’s lightweight current affairs program The Project.

However, why they’d pay a star the big bucks to host a show with only moderate ratings did appear somewhat of an odd decision.

Over the weekend Wilkinson tweeted that she was in Los Angeles with rumours circulating she’d flown over to meet with CBS heavyweights including the broadcaster’s CEO, Les Moonves.

An article in the Daily Mail has suggested that Wilkinson is being groomed to be Ten’s own version of Oprah Winfrey. What that actually looks like is unclear, however, the Mail speculated that on top of her The Project hosting duties, Wilkinson would also score her own chat show that would go head-to-head with Nine’s 60 Minutes and Seven’s Sunday Night.

Regardless, 2018’s looking like a big year for serious chat shows with rival Seven revealing at its recent Upfronts that Andrew Denton would return to the network to do an Enough Rope-like show set to be called Interview.
