Brisbane Taxi Driver Takes To Facebook To Brag About Bashing Uber Driver

A Frankfurt high court will hold a hearing on a recent lawsuit brought against Uberpop by Taxi Deutschland on Tuesday. San Francisco-based Uber, which allows users to summon taxi-like services on their smartphones, offers two main services, Uber, its classic low-cost, limousine pick-up service, and Uberpop, a newer ride-sharing service, which connects private drivers to passengers - an established practice in Germany that nonetheless operates in a legal grey area of rules governing commercial transportation. The company has faced regulatory scrutiny and court injunctions from its early days, even as it has expanded rapidly into roughly 150 cities around the world. The battle between Uber and the taxi industry in Australia is heating up with a 30-year veteran Brisbane taxi driver posting on Facebook about bashing an uber driver and encouraged other drivers to ‘get more militant’.

Greg Collins, the owner of the Virginia-based cab company Complete Taxi Management, posted on the Brisbane Taxi Driver Facebook page saying that he slapped an Uber driver. Here’s a screenshot of the post:

“F—ing slap him like I did to the prick in Warner St the other night, I am f—ing over them. You wait I will f—ing get them. They won’t and can’t defend themselves they are illegal. If it was 30 years ago in my time, they wouldn’t last five minutes.

“We need to get more militant about this issue. They are the f—ing scabs stealing what we have all worked for.”

An Uber spokesman said the US-based company had concerns these attacks were based on long standing scare campaign by the taxi lobby comparing ride-sharing to hitch-hicking.

“The taxi lobby and its associates have long used fear, misinformation and intimidation in its campaign against ride-sharing and it would be a very worrying turn of events if these alleged assaults happened as a result of this campaign,” he said.

“We call on Taxi Council Queensland (TCQ) to condemn this type of behaviour immediately.”
