The match was watched by 1.15 million viewers and sat in fourth place behind the news, according to OzTam’s overnight metro ratings.

The late night match also rated well with 977,000 viewers.

The results follow a Fusion Strategy analysis which predicts tennis ratings for Seven will be down 20% year-on-year.

Yesterday, media analyst Steve Allen said viewers were turning off Seven’s tennis broadcast “in droves” due to heavy cross-promotion and too much of a focus on “this starlet or that starlet”.

The cricket ranked just behind the tennis, pulling in 930,000 viewers for Nine.

Nine’s US comedy 2 Broke Girls broke into the top 10 with, in ninth place the show had 637,000 viewers.

A repeat of the ABC’s QI was also in the top 10 and claimed 629,000 viewers.

Nine won the battle for news viewers on Wednesday evening with Nine News watched by 1.334 million viewers.

Seven News was close behind with 1.218 million viewers.

Seven again won the night overall, with the largest all free-to-air channel share of 36.9%.

Nine was in second place with 27.6%, Ten claimed 14.9%, the ABC 14.8% and SBS 5.9%.
