Starbucks is still suffering from the hideous backlash as a result of being un-Christmasy in its coffee cup stylings, with even Donald Trump calling for a boycott.

The chain has unwittingly stirred up a storm in a coffee cup after releasing its festive red cups, which lack in Christmas themes and religious symbols, and has conservatives and Christians in an uproar.

Starbucks has distributed the red cups annually since 1997, but has taken a much more plain approach to its decorations this year.

The 2013 cup, for example, was described as “inspired by iconic holiday imagery” such as coffee farms, holly berries and coffee cherries, coffee flowers and poinsettias. The coffee giant said it saw this year’s design as a sort of “blank canvas” its customers could decorate, much as they did in a 2014 contest for its white cups.

“In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs. This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories,” Starbucks vice president of design & content Jeffrey Fields said.

But Donald Trump for one is not impressed:

According to the Independent, Conservative MP David Amess said Starbucks’ new red beverage cups are “political correctness gone mad”.

“I do think this is an example of political correctness gone mad. What is Christmas about? It’s CHRIST-Mass,” he said. “This is utter madness. Who was the idiot who thought this up? He should be sacked!”

Apparently Twitter also thinks its exclusion of Christian sentiments means Starbucks is pro every other religion, cult and organisation.
