Salmat Co-Founder Phil Salter Dies At Age 64

One of Salmat’s founding partners, Phil Salter, has died aged 64 following a long illness.

Salter was one of the founding partners of Australia’s full-service marketing and communications company, Salmat Limited, alongside co-founder and chairman Peter Mattick.

Together they established a small catalogue distribution business in 1979, along with Salter’s father Tom. The company has since grown into a multiplatform, multi-country, ASX-listed organisation and has become one of the most successful marketing and communications companies in Australia.

Salter was a generous contributor to numerous charities including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Sports and Tourism Youth Foundation, Save the Children Australia and the Starlight Foundation.

Of his passing, Mattick said, “I have lost a great friend and business partner and I will miss him dearly. Phil was an astute businessman who understood the value of strong client relationships. He was a large personality whose presence was felt in many areas.”

Salmat CEO, Craig Dower said, “Phil has left a tremendous legacy in Salmat. Our culture is still based on the values instilled in the business by Phil and Pete. His extended Salmat family is in mourning and he will be greatly missed.”

Phil Salter is survived by his wife Christine, his six children Daniel, Andrew, Anna, Dominic, Richard and Juliet along with his mother Mary and extended family.
