A KFC GPS Cassette Tape! Could This Be The Daftest Marketing Stunt Ever?

A KFC GPS Cassette Tape! Could This Be The Daftest Marketing Stunt Ever?

KFC in the US has unveiled quite possibly the most inane marketing stunt in a long time – a GPS recorded to an old-fashioned cassette tape.

Yes, basically you bung it in your car’s cassette player and listen to almost 40 minutes of rambling from none other than the Colonel himself. Meaning you need a car made before about 1988 and a lot of time on your hands.

Although it’s not exactly clear how you snare yourself a KFC GPS cassette tape, many pundits claim the stunt is a subtle dig at the chicken giant’s rivals who often tout technical marvels such as drone delivered pizza or GPS tracked delivery times.

It also follows on from similar stunts that included a Colonel Sanders romance novel and a prank clean-eating campaign that featured cauliflower burger buns.

Don’t have a tape deck? Well, simply listen to it via the YouTube clip below (if you could be bothered):

According to the accompanying press release, KFC decided on the stunt “in an effort to both modernise cassette tape technology and pay homage to the classic American road trip, the world’s most innovative fried chicken company Kentucky Fried Chicken® announced its latest breakthrough – the world’s first-ever GPS cassette tape.”
