Mountain Dew Ad Accidentally Encourages Self Pleasure

PepsiCo-owned soft drink brand Mountain Dew has found itself in a spot of bother, having inadvertently told consumers to masturbate in a new social media campaign.

The campaign, which encourages consumers to ‘chug’ went live this past week in the UK, although had a somewhat unexpected reaction in Scotland when launched.

As part of the social media push, Mountain Dew posted a video on Twitter accompanied by the tag, ‘We didn’t choose the chug life, the chug life chose us.

Sadly, what the Mountain Dew marketing team failed to learn prior to the campaign going live, is the word ‘chug’ is commonly used as a euphemism for masturbation in the land of Scots.

Immediately after posting the tweet, Scottish users took it upon themselves to point out the error to Mountain Dew.

Though, this latest err has nothing on Mountain Dew’s 2012 naming competition where the winning name by popular vote was ‘Hitler did nothing wrong’.

Whoops.
