Footballing Royalty Messi & Suárez Star In New Global Gatorade Campaign

Sports drink supplier Gatorade has unveiled a new campaign with a strong football (soccer) bent prior to June’s Russian World Cup.

The ad features two of the planets top players, Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, who are teammates at Barcelona but will face-off against each other when they play for their countries at the World Cup – Argentina and Uruguay, respectively.

Interestingly, the brand isn’t an official partner of this year’s World Cup and the ad’s undoubtedly a canny way to leverage the event without paying big sponsorship bucks.

The integrated campaign is set to run across all of Latin America, Western Europe, Asia and the US, and will include print, digital, social media and point-of-sale. Check the spot out below:

Commenting his role in the spot, the great Lionel Messi said: “Luis and I are very competitive; we always want to win, so we put aside our strong friendship when we compete against each other. Taking care of our bodies is very important and we focus on proper sports nutrition and the right hydration. Gatorade is our key partner who helps us in all this.”
