Planet Ark Launches New Recycled Paper Brand

Planet Ark is launching a new 100 per cent recycled paper brand with the aim of increasing the use of recycled paper over virgin paper.

Australia has an office paper recycling rate of 68 per cent, yet less than 18 per cent of new paper includes recycled content. This is a situation Planet Ark hopes to remedy with the launch of new 100 per cent recycled Planet Ark Paper.

“Most Australian workplaces recycle paper but we are encouraging them to help close the recycling loop by making the switch to Australian-made recycled paper too,” said Paul Klymenko, CEO of Planet Ark.

Planet Ark Paper is produced at Australian Paper’s state-of-the art recycling plant at Maryvale in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley. It is the only premium waste paper de-inking and recycling plant in Australia. This award-winning facility can remove up to 80,000 tonnes of wastepaper from Australia’s landfill each year, saving up to 200,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, equal to taking more than 80,000 cars off Australia’s roads.

“Choosing Planet Ark Paper has both environmental and economic benefits. It is 100 per cent recycled, carbon neutral and FSC-certified and the fact that it is made here in Australia means it supports local green jobs. The Maryvale Mill also happens to be Victoria’s largest producer of base load renewable energy,” said Klymenko.

“Shipping recycled office paper half way around the world from Europe makes no sense. Every unnecessary freight mile is simply adding to carbon emissions,” he added.

As well as buying Australian made recycled paper, Planet Ark is calling on workplaces to dig through their documents and participate in a Friday File Fling for National Recycling Week, November 7th – 13th, an initiative aimed at getting good quality paper out of filing cabinets and back into circulation. Paper is the largest contributor to solid waste generated by Australian offices.
