Prominent members of the Twitterverse are donning their virtual berets to live-tweet their own take on this year’s Archibald Prize finalists.

Every Friday during this year’s Archibald Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, invited “TwitCrits” will live-tweet the exhibition from their personal Twitter accounts using the hashtag #archibald2015.

“TwitCrit will deliver the Archibald Prize to a hungry social media audience,” said Art Gallery of New South Wales director of public engagement, Jacquie Riddell.

“It’s Australia’s favourite art award, where we invite everyone to come and give their opinion about the finalists. We pioneered TwitCrit with the Archibald Prize last year and love seeing it embraced again this year by more leading members of the Twitterati,” she said.

First TwitCrit out of the gates this year is award-winning actress Danielle Cormack (@daniellecormack) – best known for playing the role of Bea Smith on Foxtel’s Wentworth – on Friday July 24 from 10am.

During the course of the exhibition, other TwitCrits will include:

  • Broadcasters Leigh Sales (@leighsales) and Annabel Crabb (@annabelcrabb). Leigh Sales anchors 7.30 on the ABC and Annabel Crabb is the ABC’s chief online political writer and presenter of Kitchen Cabinet. Together they present the podcast Chat 10, Looks 3.
  • Geek, author, broadcaster and maths/science ambassador Adam Spencer (@adambspencer)
  • Journalist, columnist and screenwriter Benjamin Law (@mrbenjaminlaw)
  • Host of The Feed on SBS2 and That Movie Guy on Triple J, Marc Fennell (@marcfennell)
  • Channel Seven journalist and presenter, Edwina Bartholomew (@edwina_b)
  • TEN Eyewitness news presenter Sandra Sully (@Sandra_Sully)
  • SKY NEWS political editor and anchor of PM Agenda and The Nation on SKY NEWS LIVE

This year the Archibald Prize was awarded to Newcastle artist Nigel Milsom for his portrait of Sydney barrister Charles Waterstreet.
