Macquarie Radio Network Launches New Rugby Show

Macquarie Radio Network has announced the launch of The Rugby Show that will be broadcast on 2GB Sydney, 4BC Brisbane and via NTS Digital into Melbourne and Perth.

Hosted by high profile former Wallaby and Waratah Phil Waugh and Macquarie Radio Sports Presenter James Willis, the show will cover the Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championships and then follow the path of the Wallabies in the Rugby World Cup being played in the UK during September through to November 1st.

Waugh had a distinguished career notching up over 200 Rugby matches, captaining the NSW Waratahs and played 79 matches with the Wallabies. He was vice captain of the 2003 Rugby World Cup Wallabies team.

The Rugby Show has already secured significant sponsor support with Foxtel and The Star signing as major sponsors of the show.

Macquarie has worked closely with the Australian Rugby Union to secure access to players, coaches and officials to provide the most compelling rugby union content, plus listeners will receive the best insight and analysis with a number of FOX SPORTS rugby commentators set to make appearances on the show.

Waugh said: “2015 is a huge year for rugby with the Wallabies a chance to win the Bledisloe Cup, the Rugby Championship and the ultimate prize in rugby – the Rugby World Cup! Join us as we break down the international season and take you blow by blow through the Rugby World Cup.

“We will have the world’s best players and administrators talk us through their thoughts on the game and which way they see the results going. This program will be insightful and entertaining providing an educational and intelligent opinion on ‘the game they play in heaven’.”

Macquarie Radio Network national agency sales director Nick Randall said: “Rugby union is the latest addition to Macquarie Radio’s unrivalled sports programming including the NRL, AFL and cricket broadcast rights, official media partnerships with the Australian Open Tennis, Australian Grand Prix and Melbourne Cup Carnival and an A League show. The Rugby Show will add rugby union to our newly-merged network’s commitment to offering listeners and advertisers the best possible radio access and coverage to sport in the country.”
