John Winning, CEO, Winning Group and founder of online appliance retailer, Appliances Online, has announced the appointment of James Fleet, formerly Appliances Online’s chief marketing officer, to chief executive officer of Appliances Online, effective immediately.

As CEO of the Winning Group, Winning will remain actively involved with the Appliances Online business, however explained that strong growth of each business within the Group led to a decision to focus on implementing the Group’s vision, to continue to provide exceptional customer service and set the global benchmark for appliance retailing.

Winning said: “The Winning Group is continuing to experience double-digit sales growth. As such, James’ appointment will enable me to step back from the day-to-day operation of Appliances Online and maintain a high level focus fundamental for the future direction of the Group as a whole. It is crucial for us to continue to innovate, stay ahead of the curve and uphold the high level of service our customers have come to expect when shopping with us.

“The fast paced nature of today’s retail landscape, in conjunction with the continued digital disruption of the sector, means retailers need to constantly evolve their business model by pushing boundaries both online and in-store. The ability to analyse trends, anticipate what’s next and adapt your business accordingly will be the differentiator between today and tomorrow’s successful retailers.

“James worked with me on the original model for Appliances Online ten years ago, and also helped me build our very first website. I know we share the same vision for the company and I am confident he has the right insight and experience to lead the company to further success,” added Winning.

Fleet first joined Appliances Online in 2009 as marketing director however his passion and expertise covers all things ecommerce. With more than 12 years experience working with leading Australasian companies in key verticals such as travel, finance, appliances and electronics, including Westpac and Compare the Market, Fleet has a vast understanding of ecommerce, business, technology and sales.

For the past two years James has held the position of Appliances Online’s chief marketing officer. In this role he has managed Appliances Online’s marketing, user experience, technology and sales teams, which has contributed to our continued growth. Fleet has also led Appliances Online’s first social media strategy, including its early adoption of Facebook, and spearheaded the online retailer’s first above the line marketing campaign.

Fleet said: “I am excited about the opportunity to lead Appliances Online and am thankful for John’s support and the strong leadership skills he displays across the Group. Having first joined Appliances Online when it was still in its start-up stage, it’s incredibly humbling to see the heights it has reached and I am passionate about the exciting future that lies ahead.”
