Consulting firm Capgemini has announced it has become the official global innovation partner of the men’s and women’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

This new multi-year partnership is a continuation of Capgemini’s long-term support of rugby over the last 25 years.

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is the world circuit of rugby sevens, an Olympic discipline since 2016.

This international competition includes 10 men’s and five women’s tournaments across the globe, including the Sydney Sevens. A champion is crowned at the end of each series based on points accumulated throughout the events.

This year will also see the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 take place in July, hosted for the first time in San Francisco. Capgemini will be a key sponsor of this separate World Cup event also.

In addition to its global support, Capgemini will bring its expertise and passion for innovation and technology to the series with a focus on enhancing the fan experience for current and future spectators.

During the series, it will be providing fans with greater access to deeper insights into the game of Rugby Sevens, the players and the teams.

Examples of innovations Capgemini will apply to further bring the experience to life for the fans, will include the use of data and infographics to augment the tournament experience in stadiums, on TV and social, as well as a web series that will combine Capgemini’s insights on the game, presented by a rugby expert, to share a deeper perspective on key aspects such as the tactics, performance and fun.

Nicolas Aidoud, head of Capgemini in Australia and New Zealand, said: “As a part of our continued passion for rugby, we have the honour and pleasure to host the first two legs – Sydney and Hamilton – of our long-term commitment with World Rugby.

“Capgemini has an established presence in Australia and New Zealand since 2000, and our diverse team are keen to discover and share the passion and dynamism that Rugby Sevens embodies, which reflects many of the group’s values including boldness, trust, team spirit and fun.”

World Rugby CEO Brett Gosper said: “We are delighted to welcome Capgemini as a global partner of the men’s and women’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

“Their leading expertise in data and insights will enrich the fan experience, giving a unique insight into on-field performance to bring fans around the world closer to the action.”

I grew up immersing myself in media & entertainment. It was a hobby, not something I saw for myself as a career. Add in my love for reading and writing, and I some how landed on chasing media and communications. Today I'm a skilled and creative Senior Account Executive with over three years experience in public relations. Now newspapers, magazines, radio, TV and social media are not only a huge part of my personal life but my professional as well. I'm currently at leading PR firm, Red Agency, working to execute and support creative consumer and corporate campaigns. I have strong media contacts in consumer, technology, financial services and media & marketing sectors. Specialties include media relations, project management, events and activations and social media.
