Aussie adventure lifestyle title Australian Geographic Outdoor has announced it will be relaunched with a new name, new editor and a new look and feel.

From the next issue (September cover date), the title will be known as OUTDOOR and published by Adventures Group Holdings.

Three concepts for the new OUTDOOR magazine.

These changes follow Adventures Group Holdings’ deal with Bauer Media, which saw the group begin publishing Australian Geographic Outdoor in May.

Adventures CEO Rob Gallagher said: “It’s a well-regarded title, but we think it’s time OUTDOOR has its own unique voice.

“The Adventures’ business will support the brand with a new look to showcase the stunning photography, new format that will enhance the reading experience and more dynamic story-telling under the direction of the new editor, Jack Murphy.

“Jack is a highly-regarded content creator in the outdoor and adventure space with proven editing pedigree to match his talents. He will breathe new life into the product by finding new and interesting ways to engage more people around the adventure space.

“We see a significant opportunity to grow the OUTDOOR audience online, particularly through video and on social platforms.”

Commenting on his appointment, Murphy said: “Fans of OUTDOOR can expect to see a few new faces, a vibrant new look, plenty of stunning imagery and even more inspiring stories of human adventure.

“OUTDOOR is about people getting the best out of themselves. We’ll be capturing their hopes and fears, we’ll look inside their travel kits and check out their training regimes, and we’ll tell their story of adventure, leaving the reader with calluses on their hands and sweat on their brow.”

Murphy’s work has been published in Australian Geographic, The Wanderer, 4X4 Australia, Club Marine, Caravan World, Camper, Trade-a-Boat and an Esky full of marine and outdoor magazines.

Adventures content director Travis Godfredson said: “Creating great content is second nature to Jack. He bought a camera at sixteen, started blogging and by the age of 23 he had attracted over 30,000 followers.

“OUTDOOR readers and clients will see stories come alive in all mediums – multi-channel publishing is second nature to Jack.”
