Malcolm Turnbull is keynote speaker at newspaper industry conference

Malcolm Turnbull, the Minster for Communications, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s newspaper industry conference, The Future Forum.

Mark Hollands, CEO of The Newspaper Works, said: “The addition of Mr Turnbull to the speaking line up comes at a pivotal time for the industry, as the Australian government considers how best media companies should, or should not, be relegated in the digital age. If the speculation is correct, then he might be about to announce significant changes to media ownership rules.

“While this might seem an Australian issue, the potential outcomes down the track could be significant for publishers in both Australia and New Zealand.”

Turnbull (pictured) will speak on the same morning as the newspaper publisher CEO panel hosted by Russel Howcroft, Ten’s executive general manager.

The CEOs who will speak on the panel include Julian Clarke at News Corp Australia, Greg Hywood at Fairfax Media, Michael Miller at APN News and Media and Chris Wharton at West Australian Newspapers.

The Future Forum will be held in Sydney on August 20-21, 2014 at The Establishment and The Ivy with Turnbull speaking at a plenary session on August 21 at The Ivy.
