Primer Recruits Award-Winning Journo Jess Hill To Report On Gendered Violence

Australian women’s website, Primer has announced that investigative journalist Jess Hill has joined the team to cover the issue of gendered violence.

Jess Hill’s (featured image) appointment is supported by the Meta News Fund and administered by the Walkley Foundation.

For those not in-the-know, Hill is a  and author, who has reported on domestic abuse since 2014. Her book See What You Made Me Do: Power, Control and Domestic Abuse won the 2020 Stella Prize, and she recently presented a three-part television documentary based on the book for SBS.

“It’s an honour to be working with Primer to bring greater attention to gendered violence,” said Hill.

“Now, more than ever, we need to keep the heat on this issue – the next twelve months especially will be critical at a federal level, whether we get a new government or simply the return of an old one. I want to take reporting on this issue to the next level, and put accountability at the centre of it.”

Primer launched in 2019 to elevate women’s voices, and was co-founded by Anna Saunders, former executive editor of marie claire, and Felicity Robinson, former deputy editor of marie claire.

The website delivers features journalism and lifestyle content, and also operates as a social enterprise, delivering 50 per cent of profits to women’s NGOs.

“We are delighted to have a journalist of Jess’ calibre join Primer. She is Australia’s leading journalist in the area of gendered violence, and her expertise, contacts and insights are unmatched,” said Saunders.

“Jess’ appointment will reinforce Primer’s commitment to publishing social justice journalism and covering issues that matter to women.”
