Scribd Launches Localised Reading Experience In Australia With Spotlight On Local And Global Publishers

A new player has entered Australia’s AUD$1.979 billion consumer book category, with the official Australian launch of U.S.based Scribd.

With ambitions of becoming Australia’s leading reading subscription service, Scribd offers Aussie users unrivalled access to the best ebooks, audiobooks, magazine articles, sheet music, podcasts and more – all from one convenient platform and for one flat fee.

The subscription service offers access to millions of premium titles and is available for $13.99/month AUD, along with a 30-day free trial for new users across iOS, Android and online.

There are even Scribd Originals, Scribd’s own original and exclusive content, on the platform for subscribers to enjoy.

Scribd believes that words have the power to change lives. The brand’s investment in the Australian market underscores its mission to deliver a best-in-class reading experience and help people discover great content.

In addition to a global catalog, Scribd has launched with a comprehensive selection of Australian content from leading local publishers including Allen & Unwin, Murdoch Books, Simon & Schuster Australia, HarperCollins Publishers Australia and Fremantle Press.

Andrew Weinstein, Vice President of Content, Acquisition and Strategy at Scribd, said,

“We’re thrilled to be shining a light on great Australian authors and content. Scribd has a long history of building relationships with publishers, and we’re committed to helping drive incremental revenue to the local publishing ecosystem.”

“We know reading ranks among the top three leisure activities in Australia and we look forward to helping nurture this love of reading.”

Scribd has made several improvements to localise the product experience and enhance editorial recommendations.

This includes expert curated reading lists for Australian audiences with local Australian content recommendations, and local pricing. The company is also investing in local advertising to attract new subscribers to the service.
