Radio Ratings: 3AW & Adman Russel Howcroft Absolutely Smash Melbourne Market, While Kyle & Jackie O Move Up The Ranks

Welcome to the fourth GfK Metro Radio Survey for 2020. if you missed the last survey breakdown, you can view it here.

As we all know by now, Commercial Radio Australia paused surveys 3, 4 and 5 due government restrictions related to COVID-19. But now we are back in business. So, the important bit: where does the industry currently stand?

Well, perhaps most notably is 3AW’s Russel Howcroft and Ross Stevenson absolutely smashing the Melbourne market, recording a record 28.4 per cent breakfast radio share, up 2.3 per cent on last survey. 3AW also reigned supreme overall with 21.4 per cent, up 3.7 per cent. Meanwhile, 3AW also won the drive spot with Tom Elliott doing 17.8 per cent, up 4.2 per cent.

Meanwhile in the Sydney market, 2GB is still on top but took a slight hit this survey period, with Ben Fordham’s breakfast show down -1.2 per cent to 16.1 per cent, and overall 2GB done -0.5 per cent to 13.8 per cent. KIIS106.5 jumped into second rank overall with 9.1 per cent, while Kyle & Jackie jumped from third to second in breakfast with 10.7 per cent (up 0.5 per cent). ABC took quite a hit, down -2.4 per cent to 8.4 per cent overall. Meanwhile, smooth 95.3’s Byron Web remained in the number one drive spot with 11.3 per cent, up 0.9 per cent.

Third: ABC Sydney’s Breakfast with Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck (10.6 per cent, down, -1.9 per cent)

Drive

First: 95.3’s Byron Web (11.3 per cent, up 0.9 per cent)

Second: KIIS 106.5’s Will and Woody (10.0 per cent, up 1.0 per cent)

Third: 2GB’s Jim Wilson (8.4 per cent, down -1.5 per cent)

MELBOURNE

Breakfast

First: 3AW’s Ross and Russell (28.4 per cent, up 2.3 per cent)

Second: ABC Melbourne’s Sammy J (up 3.1 per cent to 14.9 per cent)

Third: Gold 104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show (down -2.2 per cent to 7.2 per cent)

Drive

First: 3AW Drive with Tom Elliot (up 1.7 per cent to 13.6 per cent)

Second: ABC Melbourne’s Richard Glover (13.7 per cent, down -1.2per cent)

Third: Gold 104.3’s Gavin Miller (7.3 per cent, up 0.1 per cent)

BRISBANE

Breakfast

First: Nova 106.9’s Ash, Kip, Luttsy and Susie O’Neill (12.4 per cent)

Second: 4BC’s Ray Hadley (10.6 per cent)

Third: ABC Brisbane’s Craig Zonca and Loretta Ryan and B105’s Stav, Abby & Matt (formerly Hit105) (10.3 per cent)
