“Racist” Or “Best Bit Of Advertising Ever”? Kim Jong-Un “Ahhh, Soul!” Billboard Causes A Stir

Further proof vegans do have a sense of humour comes news out of the Welsh capital, Cardiff, of a controversial roadside billboard for the plant-based company Soulful Food.

The ad features none other than North Korean supreme leader and despot Kim Jong-Un tucking in to one of the brand’s tasty veggie meals alongside the line “AHHH, SOUL” and what appears to be a nuclear explosion going off in the distance.

But it appears the ad has divided the goodly folk of Cardiff with some describing it as racist while others finding  the funny side.

However, as so often happens with these things, the naysayers appear to have won the day and Soulful Food has agreed to pull the controversial billboard and has also issued an apology for any offence caused.

And judging by comments to social media, it was a 50-50 split.

“I just wanna know why Soulful Food Co thought such a racist ad would be a good idea in November 2020,” penned one non-fan of the ad.

Another added: “How did it get to this point that NO ONE on your team recognised that this was racist? Do you have any non-white people on it and what positions do they hold? Absolutely ridiculous.”

Meanwhile, supporters of the ad described it as “hilarious”.

As one fan noted: “The best bit of advertising ever. All the reviews prove the point that people actually notice things especially when it is controversial for some people. I personally think it is brilliant and brightened up my day.”
