South Korean Soldier Arrested After Going AWOL To Watch Avengers: End Game

A South Korean soldier has been arrested after going AWOL to watch the latest Marvel movie to hit the cinemas, Avengers: End Game.

The soldier was actively deployed with the South Korean Air Force when he snuck away from his duties to watch the three-hour long feature film.

According to South Korean popular culture site Kotaku, when 18 soldiers left the base to perform public duties, one completely vanished.

The soldier was declared missing by military police, and with the help of the taxi driver who dropped him off, was found as he was leaving the cinema.

He had a good excuse for going AWOL, however.

“I wanted to see the Avengers movie so I ran away from the site while we were standing by,” he said.

In hindsight, perhaps ducking off to watch an entire three-hour movie wasn’t the smartest move.

A South Korean military spokesperson said: “We will strengthen our education so that the soldiers who are going to support the people in the future can concentrate on their missions.”

The solider is currently under investigation, but as he was only caught when he left the cinema, at least the super-fan got to watch the entirety of the film.
