TV Hosts Go Bonkers After England’s World Cup Penalty Shootout Win

As any World Cup football fan knows, there are two givens about England: their notoriety for never living up to expectations and their utter inability to ever win at a penalty shootout.

However, all that changed yesterday morning (Australian time) when the team beat Columbia 4-3 on penalties, their first shootout win in two decades.

And as the nation celebrated the team’s move through to the final eight in Russia, the mood was undoubtedly summed-up by the commentary team at UK TV station ITV.

The commentators, all former players, were led in their jubilation by former Arsenal and England player Ian Wright who was brought to tears as the winning goal was slotted.

Wright was joined by former Arsenal teammate Lee Dixon, Man Utd great Gary Neville and ITV host Mark Pougatch.

Check out the wild celebration below. England next faces Sweden in the quarter-finals on Sunday at midnight (Australian time on SBS).
