MediaCom has just hosted its national ComX event; an annual event created by its people, for its people to immerse MediaCommers in a series of live talks, technology demonstrations, and discussions around thought-provoking topics.

Hosted within each MediaCom office in Australia, the event’s theme of ‘Evolution: adapt to survive’, welcomed people from companies who disrupt their industries daily and who are open to adapting their behaviour and business model over time in order to remain in the marketplace.

A full-day event, ComX sparked fresh ideas for all attendees with an impressive array of inspirational speakers from start-ups, charities, universities, media and established corporates specialising in tech, genetics, creative production, social change and even delicious treats.

Microsoft, ComX’s national technology partner, discussed how the combination of creativity and technology will be the next boom in human innovation. Microsoft’s key note speaker in Sydney, Adair Robins – Learning & Development Lead across APAC, also demonstrated HoloLens (the first self-contained, holographic computer), which enabled everyone to engage with digital content and interact with holograms in the world around them.

Deb O’Sullivan, head of strategic sales at Microsoft Australia said: “We were so excited to partner with MediaCom for this year’s ComX event and thrilled to see the energy, passion and commitment from their team to innovate and challenge the norm. With the advancement of cutting edge technology, we live in an exciting time where arts and science are fully emerged. Our partnership with MediaCom was a showcase for how Microsoft technology can become the platform and fabric for our partners to innovate on.”

A live panel tech discussion entitled ‘Hacking Evolution’, took place in MediaCom’s Sydney office with a panel of experts at the cutting edge of technology and human biology. MC’d by Nic Hodges, newly appointed head of innovation at Foxtel, Kunal Kalro, Co-Founder @ Eugene (an affordable genetic testing service) and Maria Hwa Young Oh @ Fulgent Genetics (offers the largest catalogue of genetic testing in the world).

Sue Spence from Horses Helping Humans, discussed with the MediaCom Melbourne team, ‘What your body language projects when you are under pressure depending on your personality type and how to ‘People Whisper’ like a ‘Horse Whisperer’’.

Speaking in MediaCom Brisbane, Jock Fairweather from co-working space, Little Tokyo Two, spoke of ‘Getting out of your comfort zone’ and his life goal to reinvigorate the entrepreneurial spirit of Brisbane and to take a curated passionate and talented community to support developing nations.

Sean Seamer, CEO MediaCom said: “ComX is an event which truly embraces our #OneMediaCom spirit; always dedicating ourselves to mastering our own craft whilst having a passion for learning from others. As a business, we are open to new ideas and devoted to creating solutions for our clients.”

“ComX, a day bursting at the seams with inspiration, provided the opportunity for our people to explore new avenues and ways of thinking which will both benefit themselves, and those around them.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Microsoft, our incredible speakers and panellists, the amazing start-up founders, and to our ComX team for their passion, commitment, time and dedication to creating this extraordinary national event for their peers and colleagues.”

Alexandra Gough, content strategy director at MediaCom added: “To keep ideas fresh we need to make sure we’re exposing ourselves to new ways of thinking, creativity and technology, not just today  but everyday. ComX is all about bringing people into the agency that challenge the norm and are disrupting our world to develop fresh solutions. ComX has been a massive team effort with fantastic support from our leadership team!”.
