Volkswagen Hires Former Apple Exec For ‘Digitisation’ Role

Volkswagen has hired former director of Mac engineering at Apple, Johann Jungwirth, to head the car company’s ‘digital transformation’ across all Volkswagen brands.

Jungwirth, 42, joins Volkswagen after a year as the director for Mac engineering at Apple. According to a Volkswagen press release, Jungwirth was responsible for “innovation in technology and design, for product development and for recruiting, developing and managing a multicultural teams for research and development.

“With the new department and the appointment Jungwirth, Volkswagen strengthened sustainably on the importance for the automotive industry future field digitization.”

Volkswagen which has been battling a PR crisis after it admitted to rigging as many as 11 million cars, models from 2009-2015, worldwide with software which would only meet environmental regulators during laboratory emissions testing. The emissions scandal, dubbed Diesel gate, caused the car company’s social media pages to sky rocket in popularity.
