TV’s Leylands Hit The Road With Camping Magazine

Australia’s First Couple of Camping, Mal and Laraine Leyland, are getting ready to hit the road again as travel writers, almost half a century on from when they first started out together.

Mal and Laraine Leyland have joined the team of Time to Roam Australia (ROAM) – the country’s biggest-circulating, independently-produced caravan, camping and travel magazine.

ROAM targets the $7 billion caravanning and camping market, and in just three years ago has built a readership of 43,000 and distribution through 2,000 newsagents plus holiday parks, visitor centres, caravan dealers and trade shows.

ROAM editor Rod Bruem says the iconic couple will be taking to the road in a motorhome and filing stories, revisiting many of the people and places they filmed in the popular 1970s TV series “Ask the Leyland Brothers.”

“Nobody knows Australia and tells its stories like the Leylands. We grew up watching them on TV and we’re absolutely thrilled they’re keen to resume their careers and will be taking ROAM readers on this new exciting journey,” Bruem said.

“We know they will relate well to our readers, many of whom are grey nomads living life much the same way as Mal and Laraine – exploring the country, but certainly not putting their feet up yet in terms of retirement.”

Mal Leyland said he and Laraine were pleased to partner with ROAM and would be producing a special Leyland’s Travel section in each issue of the bi-monthly magazine.

“We’re really looking forward to connecting with our Australian audience again through the pages of ROAM and also sharing our experiences in new ways including via social media.”

A special feature on the Leylands including previously unpublished photographs appears in the Oct/Nov issue of ROAM in newsagents and online this week.  The first Leylands Travel feature will appear in the Dec/Jan 2016 issue.
