Aussie McDonald’s Busted For Breach Of Labelling Laws

McDonald’s restaurants across Australia will have to change its display boards after it was accused of breaching labelling laws.

The fast food giant recently introduced new menu displays to 700 stores that do not show how many kilojoules are in each item. The new animated menus make customers wait for up to a minute to view health information and only show the information for about seven seconds.

The menus breach NSW food labelling laws that call for fast food outlets to show each product’s kilojoules next to the price and in the same size writing.

“In consultation with the NSW Food Authority we have proactively made some edits to our new digital menu boards to enable additional comparison between products,” said McDonald’s spokesman Chris Grant.

Fines of up to $275,000 can be issued for failure to comply with NSW’s labelling laws.
