Campaign: 1 In 4 Aussies Have Been Abused

Agency Matterhorn has launched a new campaign for Adult Survivors of Child Abuse, urging the public to help their friends.

Matterhorn’s Garry Horner said: “The horrible truth is that as many as one in four adult Australians suffer from the effects of childhood abuse or trauma, that’s nearly five million people, which is quite staggering. There is a very good likelihood that one of your close friends is a survivor of childhood abuse and is probably suffering in silence, they need your help.

“Facebook was the perfect place to try and enlist the help of people to come to the aid of their friends. We designed and built the website, using Facebook Connect and HTML 5 animation and audio techniques to bring the experience alive. We are so grateful for all the help and advice we got from Facebook both here and in the States and are really proud of what we have achieved.”

Matterhorn’s Matt Kemsley added: “As well as the website, we have also produced an online film and TVC as well as print and we’ll also using other social media, like Buzzfeed to drive our message home.”

Talking about the new campaign, Cathy Kezelman, President of ASCA said: “Garry, Matt and I known each other for a number of years, when they presented us with the new campaign I was impressed by the power, poignancy and simplicity of the message. And the ingenuity of the delivery. We couldn’t be more excited with the end result. They share our passion for the needs of adult survivors of childhood abuse and trauma and this campaign will undoubtedly change lives and that’s no mean feat.”

Horner added: “So many talented people have donated their time and energy to this campaign, especially Tim and Gene, it is really heartwarming to feel their generosity to what is such a terribly important cause. So please, donate now, you won’t be helping a stranger you’ll be helping a friend.
