Southern Cross Austereo Raises $2.5 Million For Charity

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has celebrated the 20th year of its annual regional charity initiative, Give Me 5 for Kids, by raising $2.5 million to support local hospitals that care for children across Australia.

The national tally is a result of the combined efforts of SCA’s network of regional radio and television stations, all of which got behind Give Me 5 for Kids in June. From pyjama days and walkathons to gala balls and movie nights, the support for the initiative was evident in local communities right across the country.

Southern Cross Austereo CEO Rhys Holleran said: “For two decades, we’ve been warmed by the support for Give Me 5 for Kids from our local communities across the country, with 2014 no exception. It’s an initiative all of us here at SCA are very proud of, and I would personally like to thank and congratulate all of those involved in making this year’s campaign such a success. We look forward to Give Me 5 for Kids gaining even more momentum in the future.”

Since its inception in the mid 1990s as a simple coin drive, Give Me 5 for Kids has raised more than $12 million for over 40 children’s hospital wards across the country. In 2014, funds were received via a dedicated website, mobile devices, on-air phone donations, in person at community events staged in all states, or via collection buckets situated across the nation.
