Attendees at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will be the first festivalgoers to have the opportunity to use a wireless in-ear audio system called Hear. The earbuds, which have been dubbed ‘bionic hearing’, gives users control over outside noises- perfect for silencing that drunk person who keeps singing along.

Coachella is one of the biggest music festivals in the world running over consecutive weekends in April. The festival is held in California in the Colorado desert.  This year the lineup includes LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’ Roses, A$AP Rocky, Foals, Disclosure, Calvin Harris, Flume, Miike Snow, Ice Cube, Sia, Major Lazer, Run the Jewels, Gary Clark Jr, plus a stupid amount of other artists.

Hear listening system was created by Silicon Valley startup Doppler Labs after raising more than US$600,000 on Kickstarter.

According to the Kickstarter page: “Here does not stream or play recorded music. Instead, the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) inside Here acts as a studio in your ears by providing you with a volume knob, equalizer and effects to transform real world audio. Use this “remote control for your ears” to have an optimal listening experience every time.

“Here is not meant to replace your headphones, headsets, or earbuds. The Here Active Listening System is designed for live listening environments, and is optimized for targeted, episodic use in live scenarios (e.g. concerts, stadiums, flights) where you can control and curate what’s happening in real time. Put simply, earbuds are for listening to recorded audio. Here buds are for engaging with real world sound.”

All Coachella attendees will have the opportunity to purchase Here and use it at the festival. During the festival Here users can access exclusive listening experiences, optimised presets for specific stages, and special audio filters.
