Network Ten was the star performer during the 2015-16 summer television ratings season, achieving double-digit total people audience growth on the primary TEN channel and its best ever network summer audience share among people aged 25 to 54.

The number of people watching TEN was up 10 per cent compared with the previous summer and TEN was the only primary commercial free-to-air channel to increase its audience.

Thanks to the success of the KFC Big Bash League, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, The X-Files, Modern Family and other programs, TEN recorded its biggest summer total people audience and its highest commercial total people share since summer 2010-11.

In comparison, the primary Seven and Nine channels posted their lowest summer audiences since the OzTAM television audience measurement system started in 2001.

Across the 2015-16 summer ratings season, which ended today, Network Ten (TEN, ELEVEN and ONE) achieved its highest ever summer commercial share among people 25 to 54.

Network Ten also had its highest summer commercial share in total people since summer 2003-04 and its biggest summer total people audience since summer 2011-12.

Network Ten chief programming officer, Beverley McGarvey, said, “The KFC Big Bash League was the television sensation of the summer.

“In the capital cities alone, its television audience soared 25 per cent and it dominated its timeslot, ranking #1 in total people and among 25 to 54s.

“The Big Final on 24 January had 1.21 million viewers – up 21 per cent on the 2015 Big Final – and peaked at 1.63 million.

“Our growth has continued since the KFC Big Bash League,” she said.

“In its first week, the new season of our hit family entertainment show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has jumped 35 per cent on its 2015 series average, to an average of 940,000, and it has once again become a social media phenomenon.

“The revival of The X-Files is also a hit, with an average audience of 856,000 and ranking #1 in its timeslot in 25 to 54s. We are also seeing strong growth with Modern Family, The Project, NCIS and Family Feud,” McGarvey said.

“The year has only just started and we’re looking forward to bringing more compelling, innovative and clearly differentiated content to our viewers across the rest of 2016.”
