Strange New Developments In Mobile Phone Products

A phone designed by Pepsi and a phone in the shape of a tuxedo-wearing robot are among the strange new announcements for smartphones.

Robot Phone

Japan-based electronics company Sharp has launched the RoboHon (“Robot Phone”) an Android phone who performs all the usual mobile functions: making calls, text messaging, e-mail and alarms, but this little robot phone dances, bows, walks and talks.

The Osaka-based company plans to build up an application platform for RoBoHoN before its commercial launch in the first half of 2016. The cost of RoBoHoN hasn’t been released.

“Sharp had forgotten about being sharp and acute in its business ideas and consumer demand,” said Yoshisuke Hasegawa, senior director at Sharp in charge of electronics business. “We are reviewing how we do consumer electronics and see RoBoHoN as the first product with impact.”

“For good or bad, innovation comes with some surprise,” said Tomotaka Takahashi, who designed the device.

Pepsi

Leaked images of a mock-up smartphone from soft drinks company Pepsi set for sale in the Chinese market.

The phone dubbed Pepsi P1, could apparently have a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, a 13 megapixel camera and 2GB of RAM, according to the leaked photos found on Chinese social media site Weibo.
