Presto Throws Big Bang Theory Tournament Of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock!
It’s one thing to have your paper beaten by scissors, or your scissors beaten by a rock; but what if you threw a lizard and a Spock in the mix as well?
Inspired by The Big Bang Theory, one of the most popular TV series in history, Presto is to hold the very FIRST ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ tournament in Sydney and Melbourne in December 2015.
The tournament coincides with news that the first seven full seasons of The Big Bang Theory, the hilarious and award winning US comedy that mixes high IQs with low social skills, which is now available to stream exclusively for Presto TV and Presto Entertainment subscribers.
The Big Bang Theory introduces Presto viewers to lovable physicist roommates Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), whose predictable and introverted lives are thrown into chaos Penny (Kaley Cuoco), an attractive waitress and aspiring actress, moves in across the hall. Penny quickly becomes an integral part of Sheldon and Leonard’s circle of friends, which includes engineer and onetime astronaut Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) and, eventually, Sheldon’s female companion Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) and Howard’s adorable microbiologist wife, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch).
‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ was created by internet pioneer and blogger, Sam Kass and made famous when Sheldon introduced viewers to the unique twist on the game in “The Lizard-Spock Expansion” (S02E08) episode of The Big Bang Theory. The game was designed to create more winning variables than the traditional ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’, allowing players who know each other well to avoid landing on the same choices.
Presto is now giving fans of The Big Bang Theory the first opportunity to play ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock’ for real in the Southern Hemisphere. In keeping with one of the favourite haunts of the show’s characters, Presto will be hosting the tournaments at Kings Comics in Sydney on Saturday, December 12 and All Star Comics in Melbourne onSunday, December 13.
There’s no need to register – just turn up on the set days between 10am-4pm and get involved in the ‘best of five’ winner-stays-on games, until the person with the most wins is announced at the end of each day and first-of-their-kind trophies presented. Just like the show’s characters, attendees are encouraged to come down in Cosplay, or even dress as their favourite The Big Bang Theory character, with prizes including free Presto subscriptions up for grabs.
For those unfamiliar with the rules, here’s a clip of Sheldon explaining the game on the official Warner Bros YouTube channel.
To summarise:
· Scissors cut Paper
· Paper covers Rock
· Rock crushes Lizard
· Lizard poisons Spock
· Spock smashes Scissors
· Scissors decapitate Lizard
· Lizard eats Paper
· Paper disproves Spock
· Spock vaporises Rock
· Rock crushes Scissors
Commenting, Shaun James, CEO of Presto, said: “Our main aim is to offer Australians the very best content, both TV and films made here and overseas. The Big Bang Theory is one of most popular comedies of the past decade and has achieved cult status. Now with a Presto subscription, fans can watch it as much as they want, whenever they want!
“We wanted to take the launch of The Big Bang Theory one step further and offer fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to live like Sheldon, Leonard, Penny and the rest of the characters for a day and have a bit of fun. We encourage everyone to come down, dress up in their favourite Cosplay like the characters do and take part in an event, the likes of which Sydney and Melbourne haven’t seen before.”
