Australia’s answer to SXSW, Pause Fest, will return in 2017 and is now taking applications for creative, tech and business ideas.

The event will run from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th February 2017, and will keep its home at Melbourne’s most iconic creative and event space, Federation Square and ACMI.

Pause Fest is a catalyst for innovation, a uniter of industries, a platform for the future. It began six years ago with a few hundred attendees discussing their ideas around creativity, technology and business. When the 3-day festival opened its doors in February this year, over 19,000 people attended, from both Australia and overseas. The festival has attracted some amazing brand participation, including, Deloitte Digital, Atlassian, Paypal, Envato, Vimeo, Clemenger BBDO, Foundation for Young Australians, MediaCom, Etsy, This American Life, Google, Girls in Tech, Hyperloop, Stylerunner, Teenage Engineering, Telstra and VICE, to name but a few.

Founder and creative director, George Hedon, said: “The most important factor for keeping the festival growing each year is quality over quantity. We do this by attracting the best people in the business, by offering the content you can’t Google and by having strong purpose behind it.

“Pause Fest offers a unique, professional development platform where big business meets startup, creative meets tech innovators, where networking turns into investment or collaboration, and you could meet your future co-founder or employer.”

Hedon says there are plenty of ways individuals or organisations can get involved, which include brand activations, installations, sponsorships, exhibitions, hosting events, moderating panels, as volunteers or keynote speakers and panellists. The festival encourages diversity and is keen to hear from studios, agencies, corporates, media, startups, entrepreneurs, geeks, artists, bands, DJ/VJ’s, creatives, academics, researchers, developers, practitioners, community groups, government, arts organisations, venues & independent and commercial producers.

Anyone who is interested should submit a short expression of interest through the website www.pause.melbourne and keep in mind which day they would be best suited to: Creative, Tech or Business. Entries close 15 June 2016.

Jules Lund, founder of influencer marketing app,TRIBE, said: “Whenever someone asks ‘Who would you invite to your ideal dinner party?’ I always choose thought leaders I can draw wisdom from. Pause Fest grants that wish. Every year, they assemble some of the greatest minds on the planet. And this way, I don’t have to cook for them!”

Taryn Williams, founder of WINK Models and TheRight.Fit, said: “The quality of ideas and connections that Pause Fest offers is invaluable. There are so many ways to get involved and meet people, which makes it highly worth attending. Speaking on the ‘Top Women in Tech’ panel gave me an opportunity to showcase my latest startup and was also a great insight into how women are now defying ‘non-tech’ backgrounds to harness their ideas, collaborate and launch businesses.”
