Cavalry Freelancing has announced it has successfully raised seed funding and smashed all initial growth targets.

Developed by former MullenLowe Profero managing director Dave Bentley (pictured above, right) and ex-Razorfish senior tech lead Nick Stevens (pictured above, left), Cavalry was officially launched in January this year to streamline the way organisations and freelancers find each other and work together.

In under six months, the tech start-up has exceeded initial growth targets, with more than 1,000 local freelancers and companies on the platform already.

“We have started off really strongly, and to be honest, while we recognised the value of what Cavalry could offer, we have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from the industry, which is clearly looking for an easier and more strategic way of finding and working with freelancers,” Bentley said.

“Securing funding with the quality of investors we have is a great indication of the potential of Cavalry and will enable us to take our business to the next stage.

“This includes ramping up our product development and growth activities as well as onboarding specialist expertise across the technical development, business development and customer relationships areas of the business.”

The platform allows companies to choose the right mode of finding freelancers depending on their needs – from supporting urgent projects with targeted ‘Gig Alerts’ to hand-picking freelancers from Cavalry’s search feature, which considers expertise, skills, availability, rates and reputation.

Once freelancers are found, they can be added to a company roster where their profile and availability can be reviewed at any time.

Stevens said the goal for Cavalry has always been about unlocking the full potential of freelancing in the creative, digital and communications industries by providing an easier and more effective solution for companies and freelancers to find each other and work together.

“The company/freelancer relationship has always had the ability to produce great outcomes, and we’re passionate about enhancing that for the benefit of all,” he said.

“Since launch, we have been working hard to develop, learn and optimise the customer journey through the platform, while also continuing to further expand the features we offer to our member base.

“Coming down the pipe, we have a rich reputation system, time sheeting and new payment models, as well as working on a few other innovative ways to build a more flexible and robust freelancing industry.”

While the majority of Cavalry’s current clients are advertising agencies, it is also attracting a broader set of businesses that require creative, communications and digital freelance support.

These include PR agencies like One Green Bean, technology companies like Kounta, and innovative start-ups like BeCOme.

MullenLowe Profero co-founder Wayne Arnold has come on board as a seed investor in Cavalry.

He said it was the platform’s potential to redefine how simple and streamlined the process of finding and working with quality freelancers can be that attracted him to invest in Cavalry.

“I am really excited to be part of the journey with Dave and Nick, and I have every confidence that Cavalry will become an integral business tool for many companies and freelancers alike,” he said.
