Twitter Partners With The Associated Press And Reuters To Fight Misinformation

Twitter has announced a new partnership with the Associated Press (AP) and Reuters, which will aim to expand the delivery of credible news on the platform.

With the spread of misinformation currently a huge issue for all social media networks, Twitter hopes the new partnership will add “authoritative context” to news topics as they trend on the platform.

In a release, Twitter said its Curation team will be able to use news from AP and Reuters to provide additional information to news and trends.

While Twitter already has a number of tools and resources in place to share credible information on the platform, the company says the Reuters/AP partnership will improve the speed and scale of these initiatives.

“Twitter will be able to expand the scale and increase the speed of our efforts to provide timely, authoritative context across the wide range of global topics and conversations that happen on Twitter every day,” the company said in a statement.

Reuters Head of UGC Newsgathering Hazel Baker said: “Trust, accuracy and impartiality are at the heart of what Reuters does every day, providing billions of people with the information they need to make smart decisions. Those values also drive our commitment to stopping the spread of misinformation. We’re excited to partner with Twitter to leverage our deep global and local expertise to serve the public conversation with reliable information.”

AP Vice President of Global Business Development Tom Januszewski said: “AP has a long history of working closely with Twitter, along with other platforms, to expand the reach of factual journalism. This work is core to our mission. We are particularly excited about leveraging AP’s scale and speed to add context to online conversations, which can benefit from easy access to the facts.”
