Bec Brown Communications Rebrands To The Comms Department

Bec Brown Communications has rebranded to The Comms Department. The new name and new look launched today and reflects the next stage in the agency’s evolution.

Bec Brown Communications started as a publicity consulting business in 2012. Since then, the business has grown from a one-woman show to a team of six experienced communications professionals and two support staff working from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The agency specialises in PR, social media, corporate communications and crisis management.

Managing director of The Comms Department, Bec Brown, said while there have been some exciting new aesthetic changes it’s business as usual in every other way.

“This rebrand is an exciting evolution of the company that I started four and a half years ago,” she said.

“We work so closely with our clients that we become a natural extension of their marketing, media and communications teams. So this new name – The Comms Department – is a reflection of that collaborative approach. Even though we are external, we live and breathe our clients’ message, culture and brand as much as our own. But we bring the benefit of strategic perspective and breadth of contacts that only an outside team can.  As The Comms Department we will continue to provide the best communications solutions for our clients and great content for media, delivered in the tailored way we do best.”

Collaboration, creativity and agility in service delivery are core values of the results-driven team and has seen the agency secure and retain contracts with some of Australia’s biggest brands. Universal Music Australia was the first client contract Bec secured in 2012, and the agency still holds the contract today. The Wiggles and Australian Radio Network have both been clients for the past four years, and Cover-More Travel Insurance for the past two.

“From day one, we’ve only ever taken on projects and clients that we believe in and are passionate about. Taking on new business is something we consider carefully and the majority of the team has to love the project or we don’t do it. That approach has seen us take on a range of long-term contracts across media, entertainment, travel and lifestyle brands, as well as project work across national tours, product launches and three not-for-profit campaigns,” Bec said.

Having a team of senior staff has helped established another of the company’s points of distinction – a work from anywhere, anytime culture.

Rather than a central office, the team primarily work from home which allows them to be both proactive and reactive for clients whenever it’s needed in the 24/7 time-sensitive media cycle. This is important for all clients but is particularly useful for managing the PR for ARN’s 10 live radio stations around the country.

“Our clients pay for our expertise, not our fancy office fitouts. We take full advantage of today’s technology to collaborate and connect so we can truly work from anywhere. Less time spent commuting means more time getting results and gives us more time meeting with our clients in their world, taking the time to understand their business and discovering the smartest way to achieve their goals.”

The Comms Department worked with Inga Campbell from Inkling Design on the rebrand. A fellow ‘work from anywhere’ kindred spirit, Inga is running her business while travelling through North America. Inga’s design experience spans more than 15 years, including roles as art director of Grazia and bridal magazine WHITE, and deputy art director of Cosmopolitan. She founded Inkling Design in 2011 specialising in art direction, branding, and illustration.

Clients and the media industry at large will be relieved to hear that the company’s signature chocolate treats still remain, with the famous Bec Brown Brownies transitioning to The Comms Department, also with an updated packaging rebrand by Inga.
