Part machine, part magic, pure cycling maestro

Twelve mechanical cyclists barrelling around Australia to promote the Santos Down Under could be coming your way if you’re in Adelaide this week.

The Puppet Pelaton groups twelve part machines, part magic puppet cyclists, with 24 mechanic legs forcing the group to reach speeds of up to 80 kilometres an hour.

In the lead up to the race, the Puppet Pelaton raced over 2000 kilometres, seeking out riders on popular cycling routes to try and bid them to “follow the Peloton to the Santos Tour Down Under”.

Concocted by creative agency GPY&R, these mechanical beings were constructed over nine months by Melbourne production team Peter Blackwood and Mick Hurren.

One of Australia’s major cycling events, the Santos Tour Down Under kicked off on Sunday in Adelaide, where a multitude of cyclists storm the streets of Adelaide and regional South Australia as part of the biggest cycling event in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Puppet Pelaton is only in Adelaide for another week so make sure you join them on their ride.
