New Aussie Podcast To Change The Way Sports Fans Consume News

Experienced sports PR pro and self-confessed sports fanatic Pete Fairbairn (pictured) has launched a new offering to the Australian podcast market.

The Best On Ground Weekday Kickoff features a rotating cast of some of the country’s top sports journalists dissecting five of the biggest sports stories of the day, Monday to Friday, across all codes.

Each episode runs for less than 15 minutes, and is released prior to 8.00am every morning, making it a quick and easy way for listeners to get their sports fix as they start their day.

The first week of episodes has seen the likes of Julian de Stoop (former Fox Sports News AFL correspondent), Beth Newman (editor, Rugby.com.au), Vince Rugari (Sydney Morning Herald), Christy Doran (freelance) and Sam Bruce (ESPN) provide their opinions and insight, with more leading  journalists in line to appear in coming weeks.

“The show fills a gap in the market for sports fans – think The Squiz meets Pardon The Interruption,” Fairbairn said. “The format is fresh and new, and we’ll continue to gather feedback and insights into how we continue to evolve it.

“There are three very simple non-negotiables, however; it needs to be quality over quantity, so not too long, it needs to be consistently delivered in time for people at the start of their day, and it needs to lean on the expertise of the journalists for their opinions.

“The reaction so far has certainly exceeded expectations, with growth in download and subscription numbers day by day, and we’re really looking to make sure we provide sports fans with insight across all codes which they currently can’t get without sitting down and reading multiple news platforms.”
