McDonald’s has issued a formal apology following an incident in one of its Perth stores where a toddler found a used condom and started sucking on it.

The toddler’s mother, who has wishes to be identified as Wendy, told 10Daily she had been eating dinner with her two-year-old daughter and husband on Friday night.

She said she was ordering food when her daughter found the condom.

She said: “I don’t know how it happened but when my husband next looks at her, she’s sucking on a black condom.

“I ran into the bathrooms, washed her mouth and hands and came out and gave her a drink. We were terrified.”

The woman claimed the condom was open and appeared to have been used, saying she believed her child possibly found it on a chair in the main dining area.

She added: “I am really angry and sickened … I haven’t slept. I have been feeling overwhelmingly guilty for taking her there in the first place.

The family left the restaurant to visit their doctor but was told to return to the restaurant to retrieve the condom and bring it in for testing.

The woman said: “What if there is an STD there and my daughter is going to get it? We have to wait three months to do a blood test on her.

In a statement to 10Daily, McDonald’s apologised to the family and said they are looking into what happened.

The statement said: “We are very sorry that the incident occurred, and take situations like this seriously. We are conducting an investigation into how this happened.

“Cleanliness and safety are our top priorities and we ensure the shift manager on duty conducts what we refer to as a travel path every 30 minutes.”
