There’s no denying that the Australian media loves Kyle Sandilands but this baby news has turned the affair up a notch.
How can you not? He’s always saying something outlandish, and he even released his own rap song, Vax Vax Baby!
The headlines and articles practically write themselves but perhaps what none of us saw coming is Sandilands was going to become a father.
And the news cycle has been in hyper driver ever since he made the announcement live on-air.
The news has opened him up to a whole new kind of coverage, the kind of coverage that is usually only reserved for women in the public eye.
Forget speculation over his dating life, now the media can write articles about who is going to be the godmother of his child and how much he spent on his gender reveal party and what will they name the bundle of joy?
There’s even the odd headline floating around about what his ex-partner thinks of the baby news.
I mean, The Daily Mail came out. with a story today where Sandilands’s manager Bruno Bouchet denied rumours Jackie O is set to be godmother.
Brochet said, “Woman’s Day has a stellar and unblemished track record of making up stories,”
Meanwhile, The Daily Telegraph wrote a piece about his upcoming lavish gender reveal bash. That should hopefully be a star-studded event. Fingers crossed Russell Crowe even turns up!
This is all perfectly normal for the news cycle, who doesn’t love baby news? But, usually, this kind of speculation is reserved for famous women who are having children.
For example, there’s a high chance you know the name of Lisa Wilkinson’s kids but do you know the names of Karl Stefanovic’s?
The media gives this kind of attention to Lara Bingle or a Bachelorette alum. However, clearly, Sandilands’ is so cemented in Australia’s consciousness that his impending fatherhood has managed to push past gender bias and put him straight into Daddy Blogger territory.
This is made all the more interesting because the radio king isn’t having a child with another famous person. So, the interest being generated is solely because of his own clout.
People want to know his parenthood plans and from his perspective. Usually, the emphasis is on the mother, what do you want to call the baby? how will you raise it? how much are you spending on a cot?
Honestly, it is kind of nice to see a man get the same treatment. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Sandilands. Perhaps a parenthood book isn’t that far off!
