Well, it might be a day too late, but Apple has offered an apology to a group of teenagers who were asked to leave a Melbourne Apple store.
The teenagers from Maribyrnong College, who were born in Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Eritrea and Egypt and moved to Australia as children, filmed the exchange and uploaded it to Facebook after staff said they “might steal something”.
After being inundated with comments about racial profiling and racism, Apple has issued a statement in which is states, “Inclusion and diversity are among Apple’s core values,” despite what its actions suggesting a slightly different attitude.
“We believe in equality for everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. That applies throughout our company, around the world with no exceptions.
“We’ve looked into the details of the situation and we apologise to the customers involved. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure all our customers are treated the way they should be.”
