Apple Employees Accused Of Racially Profiling Six Melbourne Teens

A video showing an apple store staff member and security requesting a group of teens leave because staff were afraid the boys “might steal something” has gone viral over Facebook.

One of the six teenagers from Maribyrnong College- who were born in Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Eritrea and Egypt and moved to Australia as children- filmed the exchange and uploaded it to Facebook.

An Apple employee and security guard are seen telling the boys to leave: “These guys are just a bit worried about the presence in the store; they are just worried you might steal something,” the Apple employee says.

Earlier this year, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook posted a blog post on Apple’s diversity. “Diversity is critical to innovation and it is essential to Apple’s future.

“This means fostering diversity not just at Apple but throughout our entire ecosystem, from the customers we welcome in our stores to the suppliers and developers we work with. We are committed to fostering and advancing inclusion and diversity across Apple and all the communities we’re a part of.”

Apple has not released a statement about the incident.
