Melbourne Initiative Sees Cup Half Full With Red Robyn

CupFull was born in late 2014 from creative agency Red Robyn and Small Batch Roasting Co.’s combined passions: Intelligent design; delicious coffee; and the Melbourne community.

Through this partnership they united their areas of expertise to create a special limited edition coffee gift box that gives back to those in need.

“CupFull, is an initiative that enables Melbournians to take their love of coffee and have it be a contribution to the local community. By filling your cup with CupFull coffee, you are helping local communities in need,” creative director Debbie Ferris said.

We are living in a highly volatile time from a global perspective and this year CupFull wants to bring awareness to why people flee the homes, families and friends that they love. From a document released by the Red Cross; An asylum seeker is someone seeking protection because they have a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a particular social group.

An asylum seeker could also be someone who is fleeing other serious human rights violations, including torture or cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment. Not every asylum seeker will ultimately be recognised as a refugee, but every refugee is initially an asylum seeker1.

This is what drove the CupFull team; joined this year by Coffee Supreme, to support the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC); an independent, not for profit organisation and Australia’s largest provider of food, material aid, healthcare, legal assistance, education, and employment services for people seeking asylum, supporting over 2000 people each year.

Their mission is to protect, support and empower people to advance their own future. By logging onto upfull.com.au, you can find out more about the ASRC, the beans and their growers and can be directed to purchase a gift box. Each gift box sold makes a $5 charitable donation to the ASRC and contains two 250g bags of carefully sourced ethical coffee beans: Small Batch Roasting Co.

Andrew Kelly from Small Batch says “We love CupFull because it encourages high-consciousness gift giving and ensures a great quality, hand-sourced gift from two of Melbourne’s most respected roasting companies. With the issues surrounding safety within borders and access to safe asylum not going away in the world, it’s great to support the word of the non-government funded ASRC”.

By building relationships with these producers and returning every year to purchase their coffee we hope we can make their lives a little bit better, and we feel the CupFull project sits perfectly alongside this.

Ferris added, “We want CupFull to be a positive celebration of humanity and connectedness. The design and its vibrant use of colour inspires positivity and togetherness – it is a melting pot of cultures, ideas and new ways of thinking.”
