In further evidence of the perils of bringing your creative in-house, a Brisbane car dealership has unveiled a series of ads so terrible customers are threatening to return their vehicles.
The low-budget ads are the work of the Grand Prix Mazda dealership in Aspley in Brisbane’s north and feature staff copying the ‘Savage Love’ dance that is apparently all the rage on TikTok at the moment.
Not letting a disinct lack of talent or rhythm stand in their way, staff – some more enthusiastic than others – blunder their way through the dance routines all while trying to flog you a car.
The spots were quickly called out by social media users who labelled the work as “cringeworthy” and “the worst”.
“Why do I feel like a middle-aged man named Greg thought this would be a good idea?” wrote one. “Probably saw his niece watching it on TikTok and thought it was an excellent sales pitch.”
“OMG I don’t know what’s worse, that the company think this marketing works or the fact these people actually did this,” penned another.
While another added: “This ad has made me never want to buy a Mazda for as long as I live.”
Some of the dealership’s existing customers even going as far as threatening to return their vehicles in response to the ads.
Thankfully, some viewers were grateful for the light-hearted approach.
“Marketing strategy is working, as funny and awkward these ads are, they are actually working,” one Facebook user wrote.
